Sake Cups

Sake cups may be created from many different types of material. Popular options include porcelain, ceramic, stone, and glass. They may be purchased individually, or as part of a set.

Other terms for sake cups include guinomi, choko, and sakazuki. The latter two words describe smaller cups. The first, guinomi, is a word for larger ones. Much like teacups, these drinking vessels come in many different shapes and sizes.

People may also use wooden boxes as sake cups. These items are known as masu. Masu were traditionally used for measuring rice. Today, the original wood varieties are viewed as having too strong an influence on the taste of the liquid. For that reason, lacquered versions are now more popular.
