Sake

Sake is an alcoholic Japanese beverage which is created from rice. For its creation, the grain is fermented, making it more like a beer than a wine. However, the drink is not carbonated, which for many people makes the taste closer resemble a wine.

The alcoholic content of sake is usually between 15 and 17 percent. It takes about a month to brew followed by a half a year to age before it is released. Unlike wine, this beverage is not something to be purchased with a vintage or age. For most types, it is ideally consumed within a year of being bottled.

Sake was originally served warm. However, in more recent times, most of the finer types of sake are served in temperatures ranging from chilled to cold. This is done in order to enhance flavors and aromas. Low quality sake is often served hot to mask poor flavor.
