Gekkeikan Sake

Gekkeikan sake has been made and sold since 1637. This is the time at which the company was founded, in the Fushimi district of Kyoto, Japan. It was founded by a man named Jiemon Okura. Today it is one of the oldest companies in the world.

The company is internationally recognized. In fact, Gekkeikan sake is exported to over sixty countries. It has a United States brewing facility located in Folsom, California. This subsidiary is responsible for about 25% of America’s sake market.

Gekkeikan sake is designed with respect for past traditions as well as with enthusiasm for the future. This description comes from the current president of the company. Quality was a focus in the company’s past. That aspect is still important; however newer emphases have also been adopted, such as embracing style and variety.
